As you only have patch 1.0, you should follow type 1 Installation. That would give you the right direction. Below is the page you will find the installation procedure for type 1.

It should be “Mods”, without the “”. Putting on all caps is definitely won’t get you into a right direction. Along, you should do the same to the package folder, which is “Packages”. You should have put an ‘s’ at the end there. About .cfg and .package. You should redownload a new one, if the .cfg as you believe is corrupted. The redownload is on the page, you can follow it on the link I have already provided in the second post here. .package files always goes to the package folder and no where else.

.packages aren’t official file formats. They are often by custom contents fan creators who makes .packages that consists of almost everything (e.g. objects, mods) you can think of. So, you can get these type of contents from unofficial fan sites.

Hi, I’m new here and I have a problem.
I tried both ways of installing and still my .package is not in game. I have named them correctly and placed them in the right places ( I think ) but still nothing.
This is what I have done ( This is me trying to follow Type 2) :
I found the Sims 3 folder in MyDocs/ Electronic Arts/ Sims 3.
I then made a New Folder and named it Mods, inside Mods I made another new folder and named it Packages and then placed the .package file I wanted into the Packages folder.
I then downloaded the Resource.cfg file and put that in the Mods folder.
Is there something I have missed ?

As you are new here, we are glad that you come and join this site. We would like to give you a warm welcome and that you enjoy staying at this place.
About the problem with the installation, you should stick to the second type of installation where you put the files in your document directory. It is by far the best option that the game would read at least 90% of the contents in your folders. With type 1 as mentioned on the article, is an outdated version and the possibility of reading contents is lower or would not be even usable depending on the patch version of the game.
Right now, following type 2 of what you have done is right. You have done right with all the steps you have mentioned. Just be careful about the resource.cfg file and the caches that might not been cleared out yet from your last visit to the game. With the resource.cfg file, make sure it is only placed in the Mods folder of the documents directory. Not in the Sims 3 nor Packages folder. If not currently, although has done it in the past, you should have try to clear caches first and see if it works, if not, put another comment here again and tell me what you have done.

Hello Perfectionist Gal. I have been following the instructions in installing the .package files but it seems that my game is not “friendly” with it. I love the .packages stuffs here but I cannot enjoy these blessings since my game doesn’t want to install .package files. I have ambitions, WA, and Late Night as expansions. is there any way that I can use the .packages files? By the way, the game has CC, most of it came from here, specifically NewSea’s hairstyles. and so far, those are the only ones that work. Please help me. Tank you in advance

Thank you for contacting us at the support forum!
To me, it sounds like your game isn’t working improperly. You said your game is able to read Newsea’s hair contents, all of this artist’s contents ends with .package format. This means that your game is able to read the .package files. You may have put the .package files at the right folders, and without knowing where you are placing it, there are two different locations in placing your CC files. If you are placing it at C drive and not Documents, that would be a problem, since you have EPs installed and patches updated. C drive is no longer a good place for the game to read, because it will not read the entire library that you have.
If you are placing it in the right directory at the documents folder at first place, what you need to check is to see whether the files you are placing it into are bad and corrupted files. You can check it by using the Sims 3 dashboard program download at MTS.
If there is any other problem you are still facing, please do tell what you had done – e.g. .package files location, the name of the files, what you have done before testing the contents to the game.

Hi again,
Thanks for replaying back I shall stick with the Type 2 installation but I don’t know where the caches are or what caches should I delete from my last gameplay.
P.S. I did check and I only have the Resource.cfg in the Mods folder.

OH I have great news!
Everything is working now!
The reason it wasn’t working before was because I was using another Resource.cfg file before I started using the one on your site. (This was for other .package files not from here)
I thought because I was using .packages files from your site I needed to use your Resource.cfg but for some reason that wasn’t the case. I switched back to the Resource.cfg I was using before and now everything is working.

Glad to know that you have solved the custom contents. You are welcome to ask any further help in the future. The screenshot shows the hairstyles are in sims3pack format, I thought all of them are packaged files. Anyway, one thing I do notice is that your game could only read sims3pack format files, is that right? If so, you should manage package folder location correctly in order for the whole collection of Newsea’s hairstyles to show in your game, since there are .package files indeed. Maybe you especially love Newsea’s hairstyles? Looks like it!

Alright here’s the thing. I have the most up to date version of the game. Including pets. So I grabbed Awesome 124. I set my config file and downloaded it. I put both in the .packages file, and I deleted Script Cache Package. But when I start the game I get a message saying It looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification that does not match your current version of The Sims 3. It says I need to get up to date versions of my modifications. Then asks me to quit.
Now, your other Mod worked fine. In fact, it’s awesome

You said you have put both in the .package file, and then what did you do? Place it in your package folder, right? Where have you placed those files, you haven’t mentioned them here. When it says it is an unofficial game modification when you start the game, I guess it is better to leave the game, since it will somehow crash in the middle of the gameplay and not really sure about which occasion. Anyway, I should say that the 124 awesomemod isn’t working for some and some could however. Since apparently the patch isn’t as stable as the one without 124. Have you tried the plain awesomemod without the 124? Although, I think even if you have tried, it wouldn’t work well either as you have the latest patch and EP.
Thank you..you mean the master controller mod? To me personally, I like using this more than the one you’re talking about.

No I did not try the basic Awesome, I figured it wouldn’t work either. I placed the files in
My documents/Electronic Arts/ TS3/Mods/Packages. Was wandering, should I have put it in the other mods directory in the main game directory? C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/ TS3/ Mods/ Packages instead?
Oh and I placed the new Resources.cfg file in the Mods folder in my Documents/Electronic Arts/ TS3/ Mods. I have a separate one in Packages folder as well. So in case any of that could pertain to the problem.

CC is custom contents, it could be either packed in .package or .sims3pack format. .package files are CC files.

When speaking of directories, it is best not to use short form to present. TS3 named as it is, or The Sims 3? About placing through program files isn’t a way to work it out, as I have said, you have the latest EPs, and you don’t need to think of this directory, since it will only read about 50 percent of your content library.
If you only did placed two resource.cfg files, one in mods and packages, that should be alright. Have you tested the game right after? If you did and it appears not to be working, esp. the message about unofficial game modification, I guess the awesome 124 one may not be good for your game.

Hello again! I have a good news. I don’t know what happened but my .package files are now working!!! I used type 2 installation of it last Thursday! Now I can use other artists’ creations now

Glad that type 2 installation solved your problem. Now please stick to putting all your CCs to your documents directory, it would be a safe location from now and then.
I do not believe every link would do so, since there would never be this kind of things happening, nor would there be passwords required ever. About the authentication required, can you give the links that you were mentioning about, thanks!

I have done all of the steps above, but i just had a question as to where i should put the .package. I downloaded the resource file and put it into the documents>EA>SIMS3>Mods, and so should i also put the .package into the Documents>EA>TheSims>Mods>Packages or should it be in (C:)>ProgramFiles(x86)>ElectronicArts>TheSims3>Mods>Packages ..??

Alright, so i placed the .pacakges file in the sims3>mods>packages folder and the resource file in the sims3>mods folder, both files in the documents>electronics arts folder and it is still not working. i also deleted all of the caches in the world, thumbnail and sims 3 folders so i dont really know what else i can do. Thank you so much by the way for the speedy response! i really appreciate it!
also, i have a few expansion packs so im not sure if that would make a difference as to where i should put the files.

What .package content are you trying to install? You should also try Sims 3 Dashboard at MTS to check out which file may cause your game not showing up the contents properly. You don’t want to miss this out, right? It could be a possibility.
Also, which expansion are you up to?

It helps you identify issues with the game relating to custom contents. If you’re to pets, you should use the second latest one, below there’s version number and you can always refer to that.
